Protect24 have begun work retrofitting fire sprinklers for residents in Knowsley.

Engineers have begun working at Denecliff and Merecliff House in Stockbridge Village.

The work, will see fire sprinklers installed to 182 individual properties and in communal areas.

Sprinklers are part of the retrospective fire protection measures introduce by Protect24 as part of a £5-million package for the ForViva Group.

Protect24 MD Mark Lyons said: “The project has moved along on target and without delay and the results have been fantastic.

“Our approach allows for the seamless installation and management of residents through a continual program of communication.

“The feedback from the Greater Manchester phase of the works has been fantastic.

“Now we look forward to the successful installation of fire sprinkler systems to those residents in Knowsley.”

Residents at Denecliff will be particularly relieved following a fire at the property seven years ago. More than 50 firefighters spent two hours tackling the flames.

Then fire engines were required to bring the fire on the eighth floor under control, only for the fire to resume on the floor above hours later.

Work has begun at Stockbridge Village and will last for five weeks before engineers move onto the final three properties, Whincraig, Firscraig and Mosscraig.

The work, for the ForViva Group, has attracted significant interest from other housing associations and local authorities.
