Protect24 have successfully retrofitted fire sprinklers to protect thousands of Greater Manchester residents.
They have finished work on the final three multi-storey blocks in Eccles after a summer installation program for the ForViva Group.
It means Protect24 have now retrofitted fire sprinklers to 846 properties in Greater Manchester over the past six months.
Engineers completed the final phase in Greater Manchester, Cremer House, Craunton House and Ewood House, on schedule.
The Protect24 team will now begin work in Knowlsey, installing fire sprinklers and fire protection measures to five tower blocks.
Engineers will begin working at Denecliff and Merecliff in Stockbridge Village next week to provide protection to 182 homes.
The work, along with three other properties, Whincraig, Firscraig and Mosscraig is the final stage of a £5-million program for the ForViva Group.
Success
Protect24 MD Mark Lyons, said: “It’s been a huge success, everything has gone to plan.
“There is always a little of concern before work starts but our customer care team work with residents to ease those fears. And the feedback has been fantastic.
“The residents have hugely supportive. They are grateful for the fire sprinklers. They understand that, because of ForViva’s commitment to safety, they are now protected against the dangers of fire.
“I’m sure it is only a matter of time before all housing associations and local authorities commit to retrofitting of sprinklers. We know sprinklers are the most effective way of dealing with fire in high rise buildings of multi-occupancy.”
ForViva commissioned the £5-million program in the aftermath of the Grenfell Tower tragedy. Fire ripped through the 24-storey building, ultimately claiming 72 peoples lives.
Safety Record
Andy Zuntz, Chair of the ForViva Board said: “ForViva has an outstanding safety record and we are confident that we continue to provide safe homes.
“The Board took the decision to invest in installing sprinklers to high rise blocks following consultation with tenants and fire experts, to enhance the robust safety measures we already have in place and offer tenants peace of mind.”
Nigel Sedman, Group Director of Homes, added: “Our partnership with Protect24 to deliver this work in consultation with tenants has proved a huge success.
“By working with tenants to ensure they fully understand the programme we have been able to gain access easily to all apartments to date while enabling us to raise awareness of the importance of fire safety.
“The retrofit approach being pioneered means that, tenants are able to stay in their homes while the work takes place and experience as little disruption as possible.”
